It’s my favorite time of year, and today I’m sharing my favorite fall flax seed smoothie! The crisp fall days, colorful leaves, and everyyyyyyyyything pumpkin. I find that when the seasons get busy, it’s even more important to focus on easy and nourishing recipes like this healthy pumpkin smoothie recipe. What’s so great about this pumpkin spice smoothie? Well, it tastes like pumpkin pie, which is a great place to start. 🙂 So many smoothies are packed with extra sugar and processed ingredients, but this pumpkin pie smoothie is just the good stuff: banana, pumpkin, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla, flax, and pumpkin pie spice.

Not only does this pumpkin smoothie taste great, but it’s also easy to meal prep ahead-of-time. I like to make it the night before and put it in a working glass jar in the fridge with a lid. Then in the morning, all I have to do is shake the pumpkin banana smoothie up again. I like this method because there’s no pulling out the blender and all of the ingredients. It’s already there and waiting for me.

And don’t forget about the boost of flax. I love adding flax meal to strawberry banana smoothies, paleo oatmeal, paleo cereal, and energy balls. It’s a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as fiber!

How To Make A Pumpkin Smoothie

It’s easy to make this pumpkin pie shake, and you can throw one together in as little as 5 minutes!

You really just have one step for how to make this healthy pumpkin smoothie:

  • Blend smoothie. Place the banana, pumpkin puree, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla, flax seed, and pumpkin pie spice in the blender. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Sip your pumpkin pie smoothie and enjoy the day!

Can I Leave Out The Banana In This Flax Seed Smoothie?

Yes, you can leave the banana out of the pumpkin spice smoothie.

If you’d like to make the pumpkin puree smoothie a little less carb-heavy, feel free to swap out the banana for a little extra pumpkin. I would use 1/4 cup – 1/2 cup of pureed pumpkin in place of the banana.

You can also skip the maple syrup in the pumpkin shake to make it whole30 compliant.

Is This Flax Seed Smoothie Vegan?

Yes, this flax seed smoothie is vegan! This healthy pumpkin shake is made without any dairy, even though it’s smooth and creamy.

What’s The Difference Between Pumpkin Puree And Pumpkin Pie Filling?

Pumpkin puree is simply pumpkin that has been mashed or pureed to a smooth and creamy texture. There aren’t any extra seasonings added to pumpkin puree. Pumpkin pie filling, on the other hand, is pureed pumpkin that has spices like cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg added to it.

When you make this flax seed smoothie, always use pumpkin puree. It gives the pumpkin spice smoothie a delicious flavor and wonderful texture, without added sugar.

How Do You Store This Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe?

Store your pumpkin spice smoothie in the refrigerator after you mix it.

This pumpkin pie smoothie recipe is actually perfect for meal planning and prepping. You can make up enough for 3 or 4 pumpkin spice smoothies and save them in glass jars in the fridge. Then just grab one out when you want it, give it a quick shake and start sipping.

The flax seed smoothies will last around 3-4 days in the fridge.

Can I Freeze A Pumpkin Pie Smoothie?

Yes, you can freeze this pumpkin pie smoothie if you want to. Store it in an airtight, freezer safe container for up to 2 months in the freezer.

Thaw out in the refrigerator overnight then you can shake it then drink it. This is a great idea if you end up with a great deal on pumpkin puree or have some bananas that are starting to become overripe.

This is seriously my favorite fall (and sometimes summer!) smoothie. So rich, creamy, sweet and fulfilling. I sometimes add their pea protein, too 🙂

I use Bob’s Flax seed meal in my smoothies. It really gives the smoothie a nice consistency. ‘Tis the season to go pumpkin spice!

I am so boring with my smoothies. I definitely need to try jazzing them up and making them seasonal.
