Chocolate banana popsicles are the perfect healthy summertime treat! Hot day out in the summer sun? Frozen bananas dipped in chocolate are the only solution. Not only is this banana popsicle recipe a sweet treat, but they are also paleo and made without added sugar! Just lots of naturally sweet banana, dark chocolate, and crunchy, toasted coconut. Oh! Don’t forget the almond butter inside, they add even MORE nutrition to these frozen chocolate covered bananas. Make sure you have a stash of chocolate dipped bananas in your freezer at all times!

These are the simplest, most delicious treats. Perfect for summer!

Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas Ingredients

  • Bananas
  • Nut Butter – I like to use almond or walnut butter. Just make sure there aren’t any added sugars or oils.
  • Coconut oil
  • Cocoa powder
  • Desired toppings
  • Popsicle sticks

How To Make Homemade Banana Popsicles

Take a look at these easy steps for how to make chocolate dipped bananas:

  • Slice bananas down the middle and spread the nut butter inside each half. You can even combine different nut butters if you like!
  • Place a popsicle stick into the nut butter and place the other half on top, squeezing the two halves together. Freeze for a few minutes.
  • Make the chocolate sauce. Melt the coconut oil with the cocoa powder. Once cooled, use a spoon to cover the bananas in chocolate.
  • Sprinkle with your desired toppings before the chocolate sets.
  • Freeze at least another 30 minutes.

PRO TIP: The chocolate mixture will dry very quickly. You’ll need to add the toppings the banana popsicles fast.

Frozen Bananas Dipped In Chocolate – Topping Ideas

You can use so many different toppings on this banana popsicle recipe! Here are some of our favorite ideas for you to try:

  • Toasted coconut – Goes perfectly with chocolate. Seriously so good!
  • Sliced almonds – You can never go wrong with almonds and chocolate together.
  • Pistachios – Chop them up and sprinkle the pistachios on. Perfectly crunchy and delicious on these banana popsicles.
  • Nuts – Use any other nuts or seeds that you like.
  • Cacao nibs – If you are craving chocolate, add some cacao nibs to add even more rich chocolate flavor.
  • Ground espresso beans – Perfect combination of chocolate and coffee flavors. These frozen banana chocolate popsicles are even better with coffee beans!
  • Freeze dried fruit – Berries or cherries go amazing with chocolate banana popsicles.
  • Sesame seeds – Try it out because it’s so delicious!
  • Chia seeds – I can’t get enough of that crunch they give you when you bite into the banana and chocolate popsicle – AND they add healthy fats.

Just get creative and I promise you’ll want to have these chocolate banana popsicles on hand all summer long!

Do Frozen Bananas Lose Nutrients?

No, frozen bananas do not lose nutrients. And in addition to a sweet treat, this banana popsicle recipe provides iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

Is It Safe To Eat Overripe Bananas?

Yes, it’s completely safe to eat overripe bananas. However, when you are making my frozen chocolate covered bananas, I don’t recommend using overripe bananas.

While they are safe to eat, overripe bananas become much softer than ones that are perfectly ripe. Save the overripe banana recipes like my homemade banana chocolate protein shake or chocolate banana creme brulee muffins.

Can I Make Frozen Bananas Dipped In Chocolate Without The Stick?

Yes, you can make these chocolate banana popsicles without the stick. It’s easier if you cut the banana in half, so you are working with smaller pieces. The reason I use a stick when making frozen chocolate covered bananas is that they are so much easier to eat, but you could always use a fork or spoon, too.

TIP: You can also cut the banana into coins and put two together with nut butter as a little sandwich. Cover with chocolate and add toppings as desired.

How Many Calories Are In Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas?

Frozen chocolate covered bananas have 369 calories, not including any of the toppings.

The full nutrition stats can be found below in the recipe card, but here are some of the other highlights:

  • 369 calories
  • 3 grams of protein
  • 6 grams of fiber
  • 29 grams of fat

Can You Make This Banana Popsicle Recipe Ahead?

Yes, you can make these frozen bananas dipped in chocolate ahead of time – you need to! They are the perfect treat to have in the freezer for a quick treat.

Make the recipe as directed, then place them in an airtight freezer-safe container. Frozen banana popsicles will last 1-2 months in the freezer. They are best consumed when frozen, so no thawing needed when you are ready to eat them.

I can’t eat these, because I’m allergic to raw bananas, but my kids LOVE them – we call them monkey tails and they are a favorite summertime treat!

I WISH 85% dark was sweet to me! I think it’s awesome that you’ve toned down your taste for sweet so much, I need to work on that. These banana pops are awesome – pinned!

These remind me of ones I would get at Disney. I seriously need to make some and keep them in the fridge. Good for you for getting through 4 weeks on Whole 30. I cannot even imagine doing it, but I have heard so many people feel great on it.
