Do you love fresh figs? I’m obsessed with this homemade fig jam recipe! This simple fig jam is the easiest to whip up and you’ll be spreading it on everything! Read on for my easy process of how to make fig jam, tips for making fig jam head, and all the best fig jam uses.

Homemade fig jam goes with so many things. It doesn’t hurt that my kids and husband adore this stuff, either. Making food with wholesome ingredients that the entire family will eat brings a smile to my face, and I am sure it will yours, too.

How To Make Fig Jam

This simple fig jam recipe (no pectin needed!) is practically effortless to make and the result is delicious. You just might be surprised at how easy it is to make fig jam preserves right in your kitchen:

  • Prep the figs. Cut the tops off the figs and place them in a large pot.

  • Cook the fig jam. Add honey, lemon zest, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cardamom, cinnamon, and a little h2O, and simmer for 10-20 minutes.

  • Blend. Blend the homemade fig jam in a blender, or use an immersion blender, to finish chopping up the figs.

Voila – now you know how to make fig jam! Just transfer it to glass jars and store in the fridge.

Can You Put Hot Fig Jam In The Refrigerator?

Yes, you can put hot fig jam in the refrigerator. For best results, allow the jars to cool on the counter for approximately 10-15 minutes. The fig jam will still be hot, but slightly cooled.

Then stick the jars in the fridge, and you can serve it once it’s completely cold.

Every taste of this fig jam is impressive as it is, but if you ever want to make some adjustments or add in a few extra ingredients here are some ideas to try:

  • Peaches – Adding peaches to the fig jam is a great way to add extra flavor and sweetness without processed sugars. Plus, peaches are so good in any jam.
  • Raspberries – The flavor of figs and raspberries is out of this world amazing! Toss a few in when boiling all the ingredients.
  • Blueberries – You are going to fall in love with the flavor combination of blueberries and this fig jam. So good!
  • Oranges – Figs naturally go well with citrus fruits, and oranges are a nice compliment.

There are several foods that fig jam goes well with that you might not think of. The options are truly unlimited, but I have made a list of a few ideas that you should consider trying out:

  • Baked goods – Eating this fresh fig jam recipe on paleo bread or baked goods is always sure to be a hit. Try it on my paleo zucchini bread muffins.
  • Crackers – You can use any crackers that you like, but my favorite are almond flour crackers. They make a perfect fig jam appetizer!
  • Barbecue Sauce – Adding fig jam preserves to barbecue sauce will enhance the sweetness of the sauce. Once you try it, you may not ever want to eat it without!
  • Meat – Whether you are making pork, chicken or steak you will be shocked by how delicious old fashioned fig jam is paired with the meat. Use it as a sauce when you are baking or cooking on the skillet, and your taste buds will thank you.
  • Salad – Combine your favorite vinaigrette-based dressing with homemade fig jam and your salad won’t be boring or typical anymore! Try adding it to the dressing in maple mustard harvest salad.
  • Popsicles – Forget using fruit juices loaded with processed sugar! Use this easy fig jam recipe as the base for your favorite popsicle recipe.
  • Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken – Spoon some fig jam over it to take it over the top!

Yes, you can make homemade fig jam ahead. Store paleo fig jam in glass jars with lids in the fridge.

The fig jam will last approximately 2-3 months in the refrigerator. It can vary depending your figs, so just watch how it looks and smells.

Can You Freeze Fig Jam?

Yes, you can freeze homemade fig jam! In order to freeze this fig jam recipe, just pour it into glass jars, put on lids and set them in the freezer. You can also use glass bowls or even freezer bags if you don’t have jars on hand. The fig jam will last approximately 1 year in the freezer.

TIP: If using jars or bowls, leave a bit of room at the top, because the jam might expand when frozen.

To thaw frozen fig jam, fill a bowl with warm water and place the jar in the bowl. Let it sit for 30-45 minutes, until the jam has thawed.

TIP: After you defrost the fig jam, it’s not recommended to refreeze it. So, only get out what you want to use.

  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 10-20 minutes, until it's thick.

    I made this recipe even though I don’t like figs. After a taste test I labled the jars “Cinn-ful good fig jam” and have decided it’s too delicious to use for p b j sandwiches. This spread deserves a very special cracker and perhaps some goat cheese. Thanks for the recipe.

    Made this jam with figs from our tree. It was easy and delicious! Getting ready to make another batch now, although I am going to add some jalapeño peppers to it for a spicier version. Love the use of honey and not sugar.
