I’ve got the perfect Halloween cocktail for you today! This Blackberry Sage Margarita is perfectly spooky with it’s dark red color, smoking sage, and dry ice if you’re so inclined.

I love creating fun cocktails and this one has been the most fun for sure. How could it not with smoky dry ice?! It may take a bit of work to track down some dry ice, but it was totally worth it. You know what’s funny? Every person I talked to about the dry ice felt the need to tell me I didn’t need to be playing with it and that it was dangerous. So I’ll do my due diligence here and state the obvious…

DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE, DO NOT EAT OR DRINK DRY ICE, DO NOT PASS GO WITH DRY ICE.

Smoking Blackberry Sage Margarita - The perfect Halloween cocktail!

Seriously folks, dry ice is perfectly safe as long as you use tongs to handle it. It’s also perfectly safe in cocktails as long as you use food grade dry ice and let it completely dissolve before enjoying your delicious concoction.

(Psst…. You can also make halloween mocktails with dry ice, too! Use coconut cream and coconut milk instead of the cream and milk in those.)

OK, warning/rant over. Let’s chat about this blackberry goodness. I’m a huge fan of any berry but blackberries and sage are such a winning combination and I figured it would be perfect for halloween. If you can’t find dry ice or simply don’t want to use it you can still make it a “smoking” margarita by lighting a dried sage leaf right before serving.

The aroma of sage burning only adds to the sage flavor profile in the drink. Plus it looks pretty spooky too!

Either way you go it will surely impress your Halloween dinner guests, or yourself all curled up with Harry Potter movies and a blanket (ahem, as in me).

More TIPS about this paleo recipe in the post above!

  1. Muddle the blackberries and sage together in a cocktail shaker until broken down and fragrant.
  2. Pour in the tequila, lemon juice, bitters, and maple syrup. Give it a good shake and pour over either a cube of dry ice (if using) or regular ice if using the dried sage leaf. If using the dried sage light the tip on fire right before serving.

    Hi Lauren,

Such an impressive drink!! I really like that it doubles as a “spooky” beverage for Halloween, And a “frosty” one around the Christmas holiday. The ingredients are very common(and premium), if not on hand, very, very easy to aquire. Using for multiple holiday offerings…..:) with only a slight recipe and name adjustment…brillant ! Thank you for creating and sharing this.

How can you alter this to make pitchers ?

For a 32 ounce pitcher simply multiply each ingredient by 8.

I love the flavors going on in there (blackberry + sage = YUM), and it’s pretty much the coolest drink ever! Totally randomly, I noticed dry ice for sale the other day at a local grocery store and now I’m dying to try this!!
