I totally had a last minute Thanksgiving salad planned for today but after I whipped up this recipe yesterday I knew I’d have to post it today. These Paleo Crispy Orange Shrimp taste just like you favorite Chinese takeout. The shrimp are doused in a sticky and spicy sauce that is bursting with orange flavor. Served with some steamed broccoli and rice (or cauliflower rice if that’s more your style) you’ve got a complete meal that is mind-boggling delicious.
Do you ever get in a mood were you wish you didn’t have to eat? Or maybe just didn’t have to actually cook or think about food for a few days? Like if you could just keep your kitchen clean for an entire week wouldn’t that be amazing??? YES, yes it would.
I don’t know, here lately I’ve been absolutely annoyed with cooking and planning meals. Nothing really sounds good to me and if I plan a weeks worth of meals we usually only end up eating a few of them since by the time it rolls around I’m not in the mood for it anymore. So that leaves me going to the market everyday which, don’t get me wrong, I love the grocery store (weird I know!) but everyday is a bit much.
I even thought about purchasing a meal plan from another Paleo blogger but as I said before I probably wouldn’t want to eat anything on it. Ah first world problems. I know I’m being absolutely ridiculous but that’s just how I’m feeling. Surely I’m not the only one who feels this way sometimes??
So needless to say yesterday when I was craving orange shrimp I jumped on the opportunity to make it. I had played with the sauce ratios before but I feel like yesterday nailed it. There’s a little secret ingredient in the sauce that punches up the orange flavor but yet mellows out the sweetness a bit. Any guesses????
Grapefruit! I know, I know, it’s weird. But trust me on this one. I used the juice of 1 orange, 1 tangerine, and 1 grapefruit to equal about 1 cup of juice. If you want to make things easier you can use 3/4 cup of straight orange juice and 1/4 cup grapefruit juice. I just like adding the tangerine because I feel it gives the sauce a deeper orange flavor but it’s totally up to you.
